Piece Spotlight: Reflections of the Unseen

A mirror is meant to settle a room. This one disputes it.

The Nanofiction:

“A mirror hung in the old manor hall,
Reflects not our world, but another's fall.
In its glass, if you dare,
Meet a chilling stare,
And heed the spectral call.”

The limerick begins in familiar Gothic territory. An old manor. A mirror. A hall. Then the second line shifts the ground. The glass is not reflecting a hidden person, or even a haunted room. It has opened onto another fall, a world whose disaster has already happened somewhere else.

The artwork holds that claim in place. An ornate frame rises from a dark corridor. A cloaked figure appears only within its silvered surface. The floor lies broken beneath the mirror. The hall itself offers no body, no explanation, and no safe point from which to watch. The reflection becomes the room’s only witness.

Limericks are built for return. Their rhyme cycles back with a neat little click. Here, that pattern makes the warning feel older and harder to escape. “If you dare” offers the viewer a choice, while “heed the spectral call” quietly takes it away.

This is a piece about a threshold that needs no opening. Stand before it long enough, and the mirror may be the one taking note.
